I absolutely love Dr.Woodson. I tried for 10 years to get diagnosed with PCOS and I was unsuccessful. I went to her and got my diagnosis after one ultrasound and 30 seconds of her looking at it. She’s extremely professional, friendly, and has a vast knowledge about PCOS.

Can an OB-GYN Prescribe Anxiety Medications?

In some situations, an ob-gyn may prescribe anxiety medication, particularly when anxiety is connected to hormonal changes, pregnancy, postpartum concerns, or overall reproductive health. During your appointment, your provider will review your medical history, symptoms, and current treatments to determine the most appropriate care plan. Some patients may also be referred to other specialists for ongoing mental health management. Our clinic focuses on coordinated, patient-centered care that supports both emotional and physical health. Dr. Woodson has completed additional certification training in the area of mental health and mood disorders.

What Is an OB-GYN?

An ob-gyn is a medical doctor trained in both obstetrics and gynecology, providing comprehensive care for women across many stages of life. OB-GYNs support reproductive health, pregnancy, preventive screenings, and the diagnosis and treatment of gynecological conditions. At our gynecology clinic in Birmingham, we care for patients with a focus on education, comfort, and long-term health outcomes.

Can I Go to My OB-GYN on My Period?

Yes, you can keep your appointment with your ob-gyn while on your period. Most visits, including consultations and discussions about symptoms or ongoing conditions, can proceed as scheduled. Some gynecology exams may be adjusted depending on testing needs, but your provider will guide you. Our office prioritizes respectful, compassionate care so patients feel comfortable regardless of timing.

Do I Need a Primary Care Physician and a Gynecologist?

IMany patients choose to have both a primary care physician and a gynecologist. A primary care provider often manages general health needs, while a gynecologist focuses on reproductive and gynecology-specific care. In some cases, an obgyn can address many routine preventive concerns, but having both providers allows for more comprehensive coordination of medical services. Our clinic works collaboratively to support continuity of care for patients in Birmingham.

What Should You Expect at Your First Gynecologist Appointment?

At your first gynecology appointment, your provider will review your medical history, discuss your health concerns, and answer questions about reproductive care. Depending on your age and needs, the visit may include an exam, education, or planning future services. The goal is to establish a comfortable relationship and personalized care plan. Our office is committed to creating a welcoming environment where patients feel informed, supported, and confident in their ongoing gynecology care.
